Holly dhynes > Virtual assistant

My deepest joy often lies in the discovery of new things—those "a-ha" moments over and over again. Being a virtual assistant is like fitting pieces of a complex puzzle together and every moment I get a better sense of the big picture.

In my work with small businesses, I am most passionate about connecting the smaller details with the most ambitious outcomes. I work hard to be a competent virtual assistant and trustworthy partner in the success of others.

With over 20 years experience in working in churches, humanitarian agencies, and non-profits and three years owning my own marketing business, I am ready to help you and your business where it needs it most.

What should you look for in a VA?

  • Problem solver ⏩ Look for someone who can keep track of all the complex details of a project, and can assess potential problems before they grow.

  • Highly skilled ⏩ Most businesses need someone who knows technology and marketing both broadly and deeply. Having a highly-skilled VA can alleviate a lot of your day-to-day frustrations, and with an experienced VAs you don't worry about spending hours correcting a beginner VA's work.

  • Steady partner ⏩ Business owners are looking for someone they can trust. A VA can be a steady and calm presence in their business who can handle crises when they arise.

  • Independent worker ⏩ The best VAs hit the ground running, because they are used to remote assignments and need very little supervision and instruction.

  • Willing to learn ⏩ When you need someone to assist you in your business, choose someone who is willing to learn new things. Most likely these are the people who have a lot of answers to similar questions already.

How to know if you DON'T need a VA . . .

Some businesses are getting by with out a virtual assistant.

Here's how to know if you it's something you can do without:

  • Taking care of administrative tasks does not take up most of your time.

Some entrepreneurs have audited their schedule and know exactly where their time goes. Take a quick assessment of your time. If your administrative tasks aren't taking 40-50% of your workload, then you may not be in need of a Virtual Assistant.

  • You don't live in a constant state of burnout.

Running a solo-business is not for the faint of heart. If your business is just getting started or you are able to rest, recharge, and get a full night's sleep at night, then you might be fine doing your solo business alone for now.

  • You have all the skills needed for specific tasks.

Some solo professionals have all the skills they need to get their business off the ground. You may be great at selling or public speaking, and also "good enough" at designing you website, learning new CM software and organizing your inbox. If that's the case, go for it!

  • Your business is never having to turn down opportunities that could help it grow.

This is a bit hard to assess, because we never can know the business we are losing out on based on the way we spend our time today. Take a moment to think of one needle-moving action you could take if you could free yourself from one time-eating task. Those actions add up over time and give your business traction and growth opportunities. Business owners that do it right know that the cost of a VA is fractional considering abundant business growth.
